Is this something that people find difficult as well?
Whenever I watch tutorials online on YouTube of people making a beat from scratch, it sometimes boggles my mind with how they are able to choose the best complementing sounds so easily.
I usually end up choosing chants, strings, or other cool sounding synths in Nexus (I use FL Studio) that generally compliment the beat well (at least I hope so) but I feel that I am kind of just doing trial and error until something sounds cool, which takes an unnecessarily long time.īasic HiHats, 808's, kicks, snares, claps are all essentials of the beat but choosing other sounds to complement your main pattern is not an easy thing to do. Whenever I make a main melody or pattern I always struggle with properly layering to add "meat" to the beat, but no so much where it overrides or distorts the main pattern. I find the hardest part when it comes to producing songs is layering the beat.
